Building Bridges Across Cultures: Final Meeting of the Virtual Cultural Exchange Course
The third and final synchronous meeting between IUCA and STLCC students brought a warm and meaningful conclusion to the Spring 2025 Virtual Cultural Exchange course, celebrating cultural understanding, teamwork, and new international friendships.
This collaborative program is made possible in part by the support of the Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center (IAUNRC) at Indiana University, which plays a key role in promoting cross-cultural educational initiatives.
On April 24, 2025, the third and final synchronous meeting of the Virtual Cultural Exchange course between students of the International University of Central Asia (IUCA) and Saint Louis Community College (STLCC) took place, marking a memorable conclusion to an inspiring semester.
During the session, students reflected on their experiences, shared their final cultural projects, and celebrated the friendships and mutual understanding they had built. The atmosphere was lively and heartfelt as participants spoke about how much they had learned—not only about each other’s cultures and traditions, but also about communication, collaboration, and the importance of global interconnectedness.
Students presented creative projects, including cultural slideshows and collaborative discussions, showcasing their shared insights and teamwork. Breakout sessions allowed for deeper, personal conversations, with many students expressing gratitude for the opportunity to connect with peers from a different part of the world.
At the end of the session, students received certificates of participation jointly issued by IUCA and STLCC, as well as small commemorative gifts as a token of appreciation for their dedication and enthusiasm.
Faculty Reflections:
Professor Daniel Yezbick (STLCC): “It’s been amazing to watch how students from two distant parts of the world built genuine connections through shared learning and creativity. This project proves that cultural exchange truly makes the world smaller, warmer, and closer.”
Leila Serikova, Senior Lecturer of the English Linguistics Program (IUCA): “I am proud of our students for embracing this experience with such openness and energy. They have not only practiced English but also opened their hearts and minds to new perspectives.”
Alena Maksakova, Head of the English Linguistics Program (IUCA): “This project beautifully demonstrated that education is not just about knowledge, but about building bridges between people and cultures. I believe this experience will stay with our students for a lifetime.”
The meeting ended with group photos, heartfelt messages, and a shared sense of achievement—highlighting once again that true learning and friendship know no borders.
